PSIA-Tholons Software Skills Inventory Survey 2011

Numerous surveys and studies have been conducted by government and various industry associations aimed at evaluating the country’s ITO sector, and in particular, talent pool resource expertise. While a number of categories can classify certain capability of software developers such as type of technology used, business domain, and basic skills level expertise – the understanding of the Philippines’ software development resource pool remains piecemeal as no detailed study captures these specific data points.

With this, the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) in partnership with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) as the main proponent, engaged Tholons to better understand the Philippine software industry. The main objective of the study is to come up with a more objective insight of the available skills in the Philippines by conducting a survey that will be responded by PSIA members who represent the profile of the software industry in the country, profiling skill sets in basic programming and technology or programming language expertise of existing resources.

The software skills inventory is based on the following parameters:

1. Area of expertise in software development
2. Programming language skill
3. Database skill
4. Business domain
5. Platform
